Sin Culpa
2021-2022
"Sin Culpa" is a project executed by Julia Galeano for CREARTE.
CREARTE is a program that emerged in 2017, associated with UNICEF. Since 2019, Spotlight supports a joint initiative of the European Union and the United Nations, focused on eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls. Through its actions, CREARTE promotes gender equality and the prevention of sexual violence through artistic and cultural processes.
"Sin Culpa" addressed the importance of sexual education and the existence of sexual rights through printmaking workshops. The workshops were given to young women between the ages of 14 and 24. These workshops facilitated self-reflection and conversations where they could share past experiences.
The girls were taught the printmaking technique of woodcut. While the participants carved their blocks, they talked and shared their ideas, curiosities, insecurities, and fears. The images they carved were the faces of women experiencing orgasms, addressing the sexual right of pleasure. These images were taken from "The O Project" by Marcos Alberti.
More than 50 girls from six municipalities participated. There were 21 woodcut blocks produced, each was printed 6 times. This collection, "Sin Culpa," was exhibited in public spaces in the six municipalities. The exhibition was accompanied by didactic exercises, educating the public about women's right to pleasure.
